To celebrate Nari Ward's recent large scale public artwork, Breathing Court, 2023, on the newly renovated basketball court at St. Nicholas Park, Harlem, NY, Common Practice is teaming with Home Team Works and musician Jay Mumford, to program a day of dance, basketball, music and community on Saturday July 22, at St. Nicholas Park, St. Nicholas Ave. between 133rd St. and 134th St., in  partnership with Project Backboard, The Friends of St. Nicholas Park, and Five-Star Basketball.

Programming will feature the premiere of two site-specific dances commissioned by Common Practice and choreographed by Key’Aira Lockett, the creator of Home Team Works. Home Team’s debut performances will pay homage to Nari Ward’s “Breathing Court” and the beautiful people and culture of Harlem. Featuring original costumes designed and produced by HoliJo Sport, original jazz soundscapes by New York-based musicians, and basketball-inspired choreography performed by professional contemporary dancers, Home Team brings forth a new way of experiencing dance and basketball.
